Used to work, doesn’t anymore. Even the HD Light Duty pickups (F-250, etc) have to meet the same emission standards as cars now for NOx.

Not anymore, but still a great way to get into a cheap small truck - especially because nobody makes good small trucks anymore...

There emission levels they are putting out are equal to 2002 eqmission levels. If you look at the comparison from then to now, it’s a HUGE difference. But I like where your heads at

I’ve actually spoken with Mark Smith, and am planning to meet with him to check out the plant and the cars trucks for Right Foot Down after SEMA. They have some big plans, including kits for a lot more than just the Mk. 4 Jetta. Stay tuned...

I thought that, but I looked at the standards on the .gov site and that’s not true. Pickups still have looser standards, but vans and SUVs have to meet the car standards.
That being said, the VWs still wouldn’t meet the truck standards so it still wouldn’t work.

Only though MY2008. Medium Duty Passenger Vehicles and Heavy Light Duty Trucks (HLDTs) now have to use Tier 2 emissions standards for MY2009 and on, rather than having the option of certifying under Medium Duty Engine standards, which are less strict.

HLDT is only up to 8,500 lbs GVWR, which only includes up to half-tons. 3/4 tons are a bit higher and 1 tons are up to 14,000 GVWR. The standards
did
get stricter, but they’re still looser than car standards.
